The Cascades Jump Start Bunny SMO is designed to support young children who present with fully correctable pronation, supination, or swing-phase inconsistencies. Created to improve ankle alignment, enhance stability, and promote more confident walking, the Jump Start Bunny is an ideal early-intervention orthosis for children who need realignment without restricting natural motion.

This SMO features a full wrap-around inner liner made from soft, flexible polyethylene, allowing comprehensive control of the heel, mid-foot, and forefoot. The contoured plantar surface provides proprioceptive feedback to help children learn foot positioning as they stand, step, and play. For additional control, the brace includes high medial and lateral “ears” for guidance, plus a proximal posterior elastic strap that helps manage excessive plantarflexion (toe walking) while maintaining freedom of dorsiflexion and plantarflexion.

The Jump Start Bunny’s durable outer shell adds structural support, while the solid foundation enhances arch support and heel stability. Adjustable instep, forefoot, and posterior straps make fitting simple and secure, and children can choose fun colour options for a more personalised feel.

Ideal for children who:

• Have a fully correctable foot position within the standard size range

• Present with moderate–strong pronation or supination

• Display gait instability or inconsistent foot positioning

• Would benefit from proprioceptive feedback and plantar contouring

• Show mild toe-walking, knee hyperextension, or swing-phase difficulty

• Require free ankle motion to develop strength and functional mobility

Available in prefabricated sizing from 4.00–7.75 inches, the JumpStart Bunny can be selected using the Fast Fit sizing jig. Sizes 4.00–5.75 use soft, flexible polyethylene (pink or blue), while 6.00–7.75 use firmer co-poly for increased stability in active walkers.

Understanding SMOs (Supra-Malleolar Orthoses)

An SMO (Supra-Malleolar Orthosis) is designed to stabilise the foot and ankle just above the malleoli (ankle bones). They are commonly used in paediatrics for children who have instability but do not require the full control of an AFO. SMOs guide the foot into a neutral alignment, improve weight-bearing, enhance balance, and may help with gait development.

Most SMOs—including the JumpStart Bunny—aim to:

• Correct excessive pronation or supination

• Improve stability during walking and standing

• Reduce fatigue and increase confidence in movement

• Support early motor development and independence
