Paediatric UFO
The Paediatric UFO™ night splint from Orthomerica is a prefabricated orthosis designed to support children’s foot and ankle health by maintaining a controlled degree of dorsiflexion during rest. By applying a low-load prolonged stretch (LLPS) to the plantar fascia and Achilles tendon, it promotes gentle tissue lengthening, encourages healing, and reduces the risk of inflammation, contractures, and recurring pain caused by soft tissue shortening.
Although primarily used at night, the Paediatric UFO™ can also provide daytime support in cases where additional alignment and stretch are needed—making it especially useful for children with cerebral palsy or neuromuscular conditions.
Key design features make it both effective and child-friendly. Adjustable bilateral dorsiflexion straps allow clinicians or caregivers to fine-tune the stretch angle for optimal comfort. The lightweight shell and padded straps ensure secure but gentle support, while the CoolFoam™ replaceable liner wicks away moisture to maintain hygiene. For added safety, a non-skid pad is included for short indoor walking.
This orthosis is commonly prescribed for conditions including plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendonitis, Sever’s disease, idiopathic toe walking, cerebral palsy, and post-Achilles tendon lengthening. When combined with a knee immobiliser, it can also stretch the gastrocnemius muscle group.
