What is a KAFO?

A KAFO is a full-leg brace that supports the foot, ankle, and knee, typically prescribed when a child has significant muscle weakness, joint instability, or a neurological condition that affects the entire lower limb. It helps maintain proper alignment, improves posture, and allows for more confident and functional standing or walking.

Our KAFOs are custom-built and measured using traditional plaster of paris moulds. Each brace is crafted from lightweight, durable materials and can include joint systems such as locking knee joints to provide the right level of control, depending on whether the goal is safe standing, improved gait, or general stability.

How We Design and Deliver Your Child’s Orthosis

Every KAFO we provide is made here in the UK by expert orthotic technicians who work closely with our clinical team. Once we’ve completed your child’s assessment and 3D scan, we’ll craft a device that’s tailored to their unique anatomy and clinical needs. During your fitting appointment, we’ll walk you through how to apply the orthosis properly, ensure it’s secure and comfortable, and explain how to incorporate it into your child’s daily routine.

We’ll also provide guidance on appropriate footwear and what to expect during the initial wear period. Your orthotist will remain available for any follow-up needs, whether that’s adjusting the fit, answering your questions, or modifying the orthosis as your child grows.
