Tailored care from the paediatric orthotic specialists
At Florence Paediatrics, we are proud to offer some of the most advanced and personalised spinal bracing services for children in the UK. With years of experience, close clinical partnerships, and a commitment to innovation, our orthotists are dedicated to supporting young patients with safe, effective, and individually designed orthoses.
Why Choose a Bespoke Spinal Brace?
A spinal brace, often referred to as a TLSO (Thoraco-Lumbo-Sacral Orthosis), is designed to provide support to your child’s back. These are used to help manage conditions such as scoliosis, postural issues, or following spinal surgery.
At Florence, every brace we make is custom-made to your child’s exact shape and clinical needs. This ensures optimal comfort, correction, and long-term success.
Leaders in Paediatric Spinal Bracing
Florence Paediatrics has built its reputation as a national leader in bespoke spinal bracing by working closely with world-renowned hospitals such as Great Ormond Street Hospital, Chelsea and Westminster, and Evelina Children’s Hospital. These partnerships allow our orthotists to stay at the forefront of paediatric spinal care.
With access to international research and decades of hands-on experience, we continually refine our brace designs and production methods to ensure each child receives the most appropriate and innovative orthotic solution.

Your Child’s Assessment: What to Expect
Step 1: Clinical Review
Your child’s journey begins with a thorough assessment by one of our specialist paediatric orthotists. We’ll review medical history, examine spinal posture, and review relevant medical imaging (like X-rays) to understand the condition and treatment goals.
Step 2: Shaping the Brace
To ensure the best possible fit, we take an accurate model of your child’s spine using one of two methods:
Spinal Casting
- Safe and pain-free
- Your child lies on a special bed while warm plaster bandages are gently applied from hips to the underarms
- Sometimes a gentle pressure is used to help improve spinal position
- The cast is removed once it sets—usually in under 5 minutes
Digital Scanning
- Completely non-invasive and contact-free
- Your child wears a tight-fitting vest and stands still for a few minutes
- Our orthotist moves around the body with a handheld scanner
- A detailed 3D image of the spine is created for brace design
We’ll explain both options and choose the best one based on your child’s needs and comfort.
Fitting and Follow-Up
Once your child’s brace is ready—typically within two weeks of the initial appointment—you’ll return for a fitting. During this visit, we ensure the brace is comfortable and supportive. If needed, adjustments are made on the spot.
We’ll also guide you through daily wear, care instructions, and how to monitor your child’s progress. You’ll be able to choose from a variety of colours and patterns to personalise the brace and help your child feel more confident wearing it.
