Bespoke Orthoses

At MedFac Orthotics, we offer a comprehensive range of bespoke orthoses for Adults, Young People, and Children. With the guidance of our experienced Orthotists, each patient receives a personalised assessment and treatment plan tailored to their condition, lifestyle, and long-term needs.

Our range includes custom insoles, Ankle-Foot Orthoses (AFOs), Knee-Ankle-Foot Orthoses (KAFOs), Dynamic AFOs (DAFOs), and single- and dual-piece Thoraco-Lumbo-Sacral Orthoses (TLSOs), all manufactured in the UK using advanced scanning and fabrication techniques.

Insoles

Insoles and other foot orthoses are designed to improve comfort, reduce pain, and realign the foot into a more neutral position. When used properly, they can improve gait and posture while relieving strain on the knees, hips, and spine.

For CYP, insoles can support foot development, improve balance, and reduce fatigue, particularly helpful for active kids or those with hypermobility, gait abnormalities, or neuromuscular conditions.

For adults, custom insoles are often used to manage issues such as plantar fasciitis, flat feet, diabetic foot care, arthritis, and postural imbalances. They can also be part of a broader recovery plan after surgery or injury.

AFOs – Ankle Foot Orthoses

An AFO is a lower-limb brace that stabilises the foot and ankle. Whether it’s managing foot drop, improving alignment, or offering lateral support, AFOs are tailored to each patient’s specific needs.

Paediatric AFOs are often brightly coloured or patterned to make wearing them a positive, empowering experience for younger patients, particularly those with cerebral palsy or developmental delays.

Adults benefit from AFOs for conditions like stroke rehabilitation, MS, and peripheral neuropathy, where stability and gait correction are vital.

KAFOs – Knee Ankle Foot Orthoses

KAFOs provide full lower-limb support from foot to thigh. These are often prescribed for significant weakness or instability in the knee and lower leg.

Paediatric patients benefit from early use of KAFOs in conditions such as spina bifida or muscular dystrophy to improve alignment and facilitate standing or walking.

Adults with complex neurological or muscular disorders, such as polio or spinal cord injuries, use KAFOs to support upright posture and mobility.

DAFOs – Dynamic Ankle Foot Orthoses

DAFOs are thin, flexible braces that allow some movement while improving foot and ankle control.

CYP often use DAFOs to support development during therapy or schooling, encouraging better mobility and participation while avoiding rigid constraint.

Adults may use DAFOs when stability is needed but greater flexibility or comfort is desired—for example, in early intervention or milder presentations of foot drop.

TLSOs – Spinal Bracing

Single- and dual-piece TLSOs provide support for the spine, commonly used in cases of scoliosis, spinal fractures, or post-surgical recovery.

Paediatric spinal braces are carefully designed to accommodate growth while controlling curve progression and offering day-to-day comfort. Our team ensures a precise fit to support posture, breathing, and mobility.

Adult patients may require TLSOs after trauma, spinal fusion, or to stabilise degenerative spinal conditions.

From first assessment to final fitting, all of our orthoses are custom-made in the UK by skilled technicians who work hand-in-hand with our clinical team. This ensures faster turnaround, consistent quality, and the ability to adjust quickly if your needs change.

Whether you’re a parent seeking support for a child, a younger person or an adult looking to restore comfort and mobility, our bespoke orthotic solutions are here to help—designed with precision, built to last, and always tailored to you.
