Paed-Spinal Braces

At Florence Paediatrics, we understand that being told your child may need a spinal brace can feel overwhelming. Whether it’s for a condition like scoliosis, postural support, or recovery following spinal surgery or injury, our team is here to guide and support you every step of the way. We specialise in providing custom-made spinal braces, known as TLSOs (Thoraco-Lumbo-Sacral Orthoses), designed to gently support your child’s spine while they grow, heal, or respond to treatment.

What is a TLSO?

A TLSO is a type of spinal brace that supports the middle and lower parts of the back. You may hear it called a back brace, spinal jacket, or simply a brace. These are commonly used to help manage conditions such as scoliosis, spinal fractures, muscle weakness, or to provide stability after surgery.

At Florence Paediatrics, we provide both single-piece and dual-piece TLSOs, depending on what’s most appropriate for your child’s needs:

  • Single-piece TLSOs are made as one full jacket that fits snugly around the body. These are often lighter and easier to manage, especially for younger children or those with mild to moderate postural needs.
  • Dual-piece TLSOs come in two parts—front and back—which are fastened together around the body. These provide a higher level of support and adjustability and are often used for post-surgical care or more complex spinal conditions.

Each brace is carefully designed to help correct posture, reduce spinal curvature where needed, and encourage healthy alignment—all while being as comfortable and easy to wear as possible.

How the Brace Is Made

Your child’s TLSO will be made just for them. To get the best possible fit, our orthotists will take either a 3D digital scan or a plaster mould of your child’s torso. Both methods are safe, gentle, and completely free from radiation. The process is quick, and we take every step to make your child feel calm and at ease.

In some cases—especially with younger children or those with very specific needs—we use plaster casting to create a precise, personalised mould. This helps us build a brace that matches their body shape perfectly and applies support exactly where it’s needed.

Designed with Comfort, Made in the UK

All of our braces are handcrafted at our UK facility by experienced technicians who work closely with your child’s orthotist throughout the process. We use skin-friendly, lightweight materials to ensure the brace is breathable, hygienic, and suitable for long hours of wear. Our goal is to help your child stay active and supported, without discomfort or restriction.

You’re Not Alone in This Journey

We know that adjusting to spinal bracing can take time, not just for your child, but for the whole family. That’s why we’re here to answer your questions, explain the treatment clearly, and offer compassionate support from the very first appointment. We’ll help you understand how the brace works, how long it might need to be worn, and how to make it part of everyday life.

At Florence Paediatrics, we believe that every child deserves care that’s thoughtful, personal, and empowering. With our custom spinal braces, we aim to support not just spinal health—but confidence, comfort, and independence too.
